RUN DISNEY

With two races under my belt and one on the horizon I thought I could give a few first timer tips while they are fresh in my mind.

  1. Join a facebook group, rundisney or rundisneyrun. This gave me so much support and valuable tips and suggestions in real time.

  2. Register: if you want a spot for the 5k or 10k - you need to register the day (if not the hour) it opens. They go quick. You can always search for rundisney organizations who get charity bibs if you didn’t get the opportunity to snag one. The 1/2 marathon is less popular and you can usually get those a few days after registration day. This is another area the facebook group is helpful, they will clue you in on registration dates and times.

  3. Costume: So many people dress up and it is by far my favorite reason to do a disney run! I have posted my costumes below as inspiration. I just pieced them all together from Amazon and help from my Cricut! I think the best Etsy store I’ve seen selling disney inspired running gear is runsewsweet. You can also join the rundisney marketplace on facebook where runners resell their outfits, you can find some good ideas and deals on that page. And of course I didn’t listen to this but do a practice run in full costume. I would have done a bit of a shift in my hair piece for tangled!

  4. Training: Rundisney has a great training program - I honestly need an accountability partner above anything. Get out, start running, you can do it! I watched Brittany Runs A Marathon on Prime and it really got me motivated (a non-runner!) Get yourself a good pair of running shoes, a can do attitude and just make sure you can keep a 16 minute mile pace so the balloon ladies don’t sweep you!

  5. Pictures: Get the memory maker - or split it with someone. The race photos are so great! Look for them during your run and don’t forget to smile for at least one! (You spent a lot of money for this run, at least pretend you enjoyed it!) If you are worried about time - I would suggest skipping the pictures with characters but if you are keeping a good pace or the character is your absolute favorite, don’t miss out! This isn’t a race you PR on - its ok to pause to enjoy it! Don’t forget to run with your phone if you plan on taking your own photos!

  6. Water and bathrooms: Water is plentiful as is blue powerade - there are so many wonderful volunteers who allow this event to go smoothly and have plenty of spots to rehydrate. Bathrooms - if you gotta go, try to go while there are actual bathrooms such as the ones in the park. HOWEVER, if you must use a portapotty, I highly recommend taking off any excess costume that might create issues in tight quarters. I may or may not be speaking from experience.

  7. Your Stuff: When you go to the expo, they will give you a plastic bag that you can put your stuff in on the day of the race and check it at a stationary truck while you run Super helpful.

  8. The Parks: Absolutely go to the parks after! Go back to the room, take a quick shower and sport your medal! You earned it!

This is life in my lane, I hope it helps you navigate yours! - Christy
