Golden Birthday
What is a golden birthday?
A golden birthday is when the date of your birthday is the same number as the year you are turning. For example, my golden birthday was when I turned 27 because my birthday is Feb. 27th. My son turned 7 a few years back (on March 7th) and we threw a really fun ‘golden’ themed birthday party, and just this year my friend reached out for some ideas for her daughter’s golden birthday party. Between the two parties, we compiled some great ideas and decor for you to use to help plan a golden birthday!
Let’s Talk Decor!
Table Top: Set the tone of the party with a glittery golden table! This dinnerware set is a great deal that is complete with cups, plates, napkins, utensils and straws. And this sequence table runner and Plastic Stemless Wine Glasses will pull it all together!
Birthday Backdrop: This gold sequence backdrop has made its appearance at many parties! The Gold paper circles, Gold Number Balloons and Gold Paper Fans accompanied by this gold tinsel curtain and assorted gold balloons should be plenty to turn your party room into a striking golden extravaganza!
Food to Serve:
I personally went easy on the cake (angel food, Braedon’s favorite) and I let him decorate it himself with gold sprinkles and icing - he did a fantastic job! Carly’s cake was dusted with edible gold color mist and adorned with this beautiful personalized cake topper and golden tiara. I found these awesome gold rock candies that were a huge hit among the boys, and my friend Elaine found tasty golden macaroons on Etsy!
Other suggestions: chocolate gold coins, Gold Mine Bubblegum Nuggets
Things to Do:
Slime: Not every parent’s favorite activity or party favorite, but Braedon was really into making it so I complied. Note: my friendships with the parents of these kids did survive. Here is the golden slime recipe I used - I am sure you can find plenty of others. You really just have to take the time to work with it until it’s the right consistency. The kids enjoyed getting messy! I had ziplock bags with their names on them to put the slime aside when we were done.
Gold Nugget Dig Kit: This was a huge - dusty - hit! I got two of these Gold Nugget Dig Kits and let the kids excavate them in pairs ( each kit had 3 gold nuggets included, so each kid got one) My biggest recommendation for this activity would be to put newspaper down or something to contain the dust that you could easily throw away. Or you can even complete it outside; we held this party in the middle of a snow storm, so outside wasn’t an option. Before we started excavating, I gave the kids a golden pouch and gold rhinestone stickers to decorate as safe storage for their golden nugget!
Piñata: A birthday staple! Elaine found this adorable gold pineapple piñata to coordinate with the golden theme!
Other Suggestions:
Golden Pool Party: Gold Inner tube and beach ball set
Golden Pampering Party: gold nail polish, gold face temporary tattoos, DIY gold bath bombs
