Wild Kratts Birthday Party

Nathan turned 5! We had so much fun celebrating this crazy, fun, loving, wild kid’s birthday! This was probably my favorite party I’ve planned - and I lucked out with the best weather too!

Wild Kratts, if you haven’t seen the show, is an adorable, educational tv series where zoologist brothers, Chris and Martin Kratt imagine what it would be like to be certain animals and have their “creatures powers”. It is filled with cool animal facts and both my kids love this show.

Where:

As I was planning this party, I couldn’t decide where to have it. I originally thought, lets just do a party at the zoo with a Wild Kratts cake. However, the tagline of the show is “animals should be free and in the wild” SO… I couldn't really pull the trigger on the zoo idea.

I work at a preschool and it backs up to a state park and while I was at recess one afternoon it clicked: We will have it here, and go on a creature adventure on a hike! The idea snowballed and thus produced my favorite party I’ve planned!

The Decorations:

I used animal cut outs that our church had for a kids service - you can find them on amazon, but they are pretty pricey and I probably wouldn’t pay for them for just one party. But to each their own lane.

This is a link to one of the two types of vines I used to decorate the fence (the other I borrowed from a friend): Ivy Garland

Unfortunately, the shirt and the poster are no longer available Etsy, but I’m certain there are other shops!

I printed the creature power disks from the PBS website

The Vests:

I made each kid a creature power vest out of black t-shirts (cut them a little shorter and cut off the sleeves) and then used felt to complete the look. I used fabric glue to adhere it. I also glued a velcro piece to the center of the vest for them to put their creature powers they collect in the activity.

I also got a bunch of animal masks from amazon to complete the outfit.

The Activities:

First activity was to have the kids ‘earn’ creature powers. I made a few ‘animal tasks’ for the kids to complete and as they completed each task, they got a creature power disk! They absolutely loved it! Then we passed out animal stampers that I hot glued to yarn and a ‘creature scavenger hunt’ paper for them to complete. As we went on the hike, they stamped the column if they saw that type of animal!

Time for Cake!

I take ZERO credit fo this cake! Mike’s boss has an amazing talent for baking/decorating cakes and she has been generous enough to bake so many of our kids cakes!

Bottom Line:

The kid spent the day with all his friends, opening presents and eating cake - he deemed it a success!

This is life in my lane, I hope it helps you navigate yours!
